Duskpaw purred in amusement. After trotting besides Badgerclaw he answered the warrior's earlier question. "No I don't haven't got a mentor yet." he said flatly, wondering who his mentor was going to be.

Duskpaw thought for a moment. He wondered who he would like for a mentor. Personally he wouldn't mind if Badgerclaw as a mentor. "I'm not sure." he said. He glanced over at the warrior. "Do you think you would be a good mentor?"

"Do you think I would be a good mentor?" The old warrior asked gruffly, then lifted his head, catching the scent of a mouse. He watched Duskpaw carefully, wanting to see if the young apprentice would catch the scent.

Duskpaw nodded "Yeah." he said, "I think you would." seeing Badgerclaw stop and look like he scented something he stopped to scent the air. He tried to think on the scent. "Um, is it a vole?" he asked, unsure.

"Very close; a mouse. There scents are much alike. Now, where is the scent coming from? Pinpoint about were the mouse is, then look and listen for movement." Badgerclaw said softly, not wanting to frighten the mouse away.

Duskpaw nodded then krept foward, keeping light on his paws. He took a few steps foward and forgetting to keep his weight on his haunches before he pounced the mouse slipped through his paws and scampered off.

"That was good!" Badgerclaw praised. "The first time I tried for a mouse, I completely missed it. The little blighter heard me coming from yards away." The old tom chuckled, remembering. "Next time, try keeping your weight a bit more in your haunches. Practice the hunting position just whenever you have time. Each cat is a little different, but most settle down a bit, waiting to make sure the mouse is unprepared. But you were very light on you pause. That's the hardest bit to learn."
